CW September 2006Issue Number 9 September 2006 ISSN 10593802 Changing Role of Transplantation in CML TreatmentIndications for transplantation in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) are based on considerations of the donor (related donors are easier to tolerate compared to unrelated donors) and the patient?s age. Patients with advanced phases of the disease can use tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy as a bridge to transplantation. Response to therapy is based on cytogenetics, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and mutation data.
