Obesity is an independent risk factor for endometrial cancer. Recently, it has been suggested that in addition to other obesity-related factors, insulin resistance is also an independent risk factor for endometrial cancer. A low level of serum adiponectin, a newly identified protein exclusively secreted by adipocyte, is found to increase insulin resistance and risk of developing endometrial cancer.
