Diagnosis of Occult Breast Cancer from Axillary Metastasis

Axillary metastases without a palpable breast tumor could indicate occult breast cancer, which is rare. Expression of growth factors VEGF-C and VEGF-D secreted by the cytokeratin-positive cancer cells in the affected lymphnodes may be an important diagnostic marker for occult breast cancer.
