Benefit of Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer Depends on Estrogen-Receptor Status

Breast cancer patients whose disease has been spread to the lymph nodes have always been treated with chemotherapy regardless of the hormone receptor status of the tumors. Cumulative evidence suggests that patients with estrogen receptor-negative breast tumors show much more benefit from the modern combination chemotherapy than those with estrogen receptor-positive tumors.
