CW March 2006Issue Number 3 March 2006 ISSN 10593802 Blood-Based Test for Breast CancerThere is urgent need for sensitive screening blood tests for cancer. Since the cancer-related proteins are in low abundance in serum, the reproducibility of the procedure is critical. Proteomics techniques are being refined and are applied to identify biomarkers for breast cancer in serum. Preliminary results suggest that there is great potential of developing blood tests for early cancer detection.
