CW February 2006Issue Number 2 February 2006 ISSN 10593802 Targeted Chemotherapy for Solid TumorsFlexible electrodes have been developed that could be used in combination with endoscopic devices to apply electrical pulses to tumors in the internal organs. Electrical pulses applied on cell surfaces produce transient pores to allow otherwise impermeable cytotoxic drugs into the cells. Direct administration of chemotherapeutic drugs increases effective concentration of the target tumor without affecting healthy tissues.
