Curcumin Induces Apoptosis in Prostate Cancer Cells

Curcumin (diferuloyl-methane), the yellow pigment present in the spice turmeric has been shown to possess many biological functions, including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activity. In an animal model, this chemical has been shown to inhibit induction of various cancers. In vitro studies with curcumin have demonstrated antiproliferative and anti-apoptotic effects. Prostate cancer cells, resistant to apoptosis, have been demonstrated to be sensitized when curcumin is used.
