A Common Allele of a Cell Receptor Switches Cancer Cell Growth Inhibition to Growth Stimulation

A variant form of a gene that is present in 14% of the general population can increase the risk of developing certain cancer. During cancer progression, this gene is acquired in the tumor cells and can give the tumor a growth advantage.
