Volume 14Issue Number 9 September 2005 ISSN 10593802 Doubling the Dose of Gleevec Overcomes Secondary Resistance in GISTFor patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) with disease progression on the standard 400 mg daily dose of imatinib (Gleevec), a dose increase to 800 mg daily leads to further therapeutic activity. Overall toxicity after dose doubling remains easily manageable, with dose-reductions rarely necessary.
