CW August 2005Issue Number 8 August 2005 ISSN 10593802 Personalized Medicine in CancerCancer treatment has come a long way, but the path to a perfect treatment is still far away, because cancer is not a single disease. Variation in a single type of cancer in a single patient is enormous and can significantly compromise treatment strategies. Advances have been made to overcome problems related to traditional treatment, but they have not improved life expectancy or quality of life for certain types of cancer patients. The new era of cancer treatment will use genome-based medicine and will be very personalized.
