CW July 2005Issue Number 7 July 2005 ISSN 10593802 Docetaxel with Cisplatin and 5FU Offers Gastric Cancer BenefitMetastatic gastric cancer has a poor prognosis. Experience with combination chemotherapy has proven that it offers a survival advantage over best supportive care. A combination that has been widely tested and has shown reproducible results adds the platinum-based cisplatin (C) to 5-fluorouracil (F). A trial adding docetaxel (Taxotere, Sanofi-Aventis) to CF shows benefits in time-to-progression (TTP)and overall survival (OS) with manageable toxicity.
