Based on extrapolations from the MOSAIC trial, in which metastatic colorectal cancer patients received FOLFOX 4 (oxaliplatin, fluorouracil, and leucovorin), the regimen increased life expectancy in a cost-effective manner. While the oxaliplatin-containing FOLFOX 4 regimen was considerably more expensive than the fluorouracil and leucovorin (LV 5-FU2) alone, a reduced relapse rate with FOLFOX 4 partially offset that cost.
