Blood Test for Thyroid Cancer Reveals Recurrence Early

Recurrence of thyroid cancer is indicated if thyroglobulin (Tg), a protein produced by thyroid cancer cells, is detected after complete ablation of the gland and treatment with radioactive iodine. Researchers find that even when the blood Tg level is extremely low or even undetectable, there is still a risk of recurrence. Therefore, thyroid cancer patients who have been treated for the disease should be examined regularly for early signs of recurrence.
