CW June 2005Issue Number 6 June 2005 ISSN 10593802 Bicalutamide Does Not Induce Osteoporosis in Men with Prostate CancerUnlike other commonly prescribed anti-androgen therapies for prostate cancer, bicalutamide (Casodex, AstraZeneca) does not cause bone mineral density (BMD) loss, according to a study of men with prostate cancer treated with the agent. Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal anti-androgen that blocks the action of testosterone without reducing testosterone levels, stated Vivek Wadhwa, Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, UK, at the American Urological Association 2005 Annual Meeting.
