CW May 2005Issue Number 5 May 2005 ISSN 10593802 Intravenous Bisphosphonate Reduces Bone Loss Associated with Early Breast Cancer TreatmentAromatase inhibitors (AIs) such as letrozole are effective therapies for post-menopausal women with breast cancer. However, their use has been associated with increased bone resorption markers and bone loss at the lumbar spine and total spine. A new study shows that upfront zolendronic acid in combination with letrozole offers the potential to combine the anti-cancer effect of letrozole with the bone protective effect of zolendronic acid.
