Gene Signature Predicts Failure to Conventional Therapies

Microarray analysis has identified a so-called ?death from cancer signature? of 11 genes that can predict failure from therapy with multiple types of cancer. The signature is associated with cell proliferation and renewal in both human stem cells and by 10 different types of human cancer diagnosed in a wide range of organs. The genes in the signature will alert physicians and patients to those who are at much higher risk for metastatic complications and more severe cancer illness as the disease progresses. Those people are genetically less likely to respond to the conventional therapies that work for many other patients.
