Anastrozole: Final ATAC Analysis Confirms Better Efficacy and Side Effects

Final results of the huge ATAC (Arimidex, Tamoxifen, Alone or in Combination) trial suggest that anastrozole (Arimidex, AstraZeneca) is the initial treatment of choice for postmeno-pausal women with hormone receptor positive early breast cancer. The trial, which showed both better efficacy and a far superior side effect profile for anastrozole versus tamoxifen, enrolled 9,366 patients recruited from 381 centers in 21 countries.
