Chemotherapy Plus Targeted Therapy Superior for Adult Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Despite intensive chemotherapy, preferably followed by allogenic stem cell transplantation (SCT), the prognosis of adult patients with Philadelphia-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ALL) is poor. Adding imatinib to first-line treatment may improve efficacy and outcome and reduce the occurrence of imatinib-resistance. However, it has not yet been established how imatinib is best incorporated in the front-line treatment of Ph+ALL.
