A drug that blocks a specific cell surface receptor allows stem cells to move out of the bone marrow into the blood stream. This, along with a growth factor that stimulates stem cell growth, enriches peripheral blood with stem cells in a healthy subject, which can be collected for transplant in cancer patients.
