Natural Cytokine May Improve Cancer Immunotherapy

Adoptive immunotherapy with tumor-specific T-cells is an experimental procedure used mainly to treat Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated lymphoma, malignant melanoma, and limphoproliferative disease following bone marrow transplantation. The procedure could potentially be used to treat other cancers as well, particularly those with cells that have unusual surface markers or antigens. The markers enable the immune system T-cells to home in and attack a tumor. Even though T-cells are sensitized to the tumor, they cannot overcome it without help from cytokine stimulation.
