First Prescription Therapy for Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first prescription therapy in nearly a decade for the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC), a type of nonmelanoma skin cancer. Earlier this year, the FDA approved the same treatment for actinic keratosis (AK), which is a precancerous skin condition with lesions often occurring on the face or scalp. Both AK and sBCC are skin conditions caused by chronic sun exposure.
