CW June 2004Issue Number 6 June 2004 ISSN 10593802 Statins May Reduce the Risk of Colon CancerStatins, commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol, may protect against colorectal cancer. Research involving more than 3,700 Israeli patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer and controls matched for age, gender and ethnicity show that statin use was associated with about a 50% reduction in risk. The researchers noted, however, that the findings are not yet definitive enough to recommend widespread statin use for colorectal cancer prevention.
