Multi-Gene RT-PCR Assay for Predicting Response to Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer

Using a 21 gene reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) Recurrence Score assay (Oncotype Dx™, Genomic Health, Inc.), previously shown to quantify the likelihood of recurrence in node negative (-), estrogen receptor positive (ER+) tamoxifen-treated women with early stage breast cancer, patterns of expression of a substantial number of genes were clinically correlated to a complete pathologic response to chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced breast cancer, according to investigators speaking at the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, held in New Orleans, LA, from June 5 to June 8, 2004.
