New results from major studies will change the standard of care for prostate and colon cancers. Two of the largest ever studies on hormone-refractory prostate cancer show that docetaxel not only relieves pain but, for the first time, can also prolong lives. Two large studies of oral fluoropyrimidines show they are preferable to standard intravenous 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin (5-FU/LV) therapy in the adjuvant treatment of colon cancer.
