Wound Healing Genes Promote Cancer Progression

During wound healing under normal physiological conditions, certain genes are stimulated to perform functions such as accelerated cell division and the remodeling needed to bring the affected tissue to health. Researchers have found that expression of specific wound healing genes is activated in cancers. In other words, cancer is a perpetual wound that is not healed.
