A Prodrug Activated by Prostrate-Specific Antigen Kills Prostate Cancer Cells

A prodrug for androgen-refractory prostate cancer is developed that is activated by prostate-specific antigen, a protease specifically present in prostate cancer cells. This prodrug is produced by covalently connecting doxorubicin, a potent anticancer agent, with a short peptide. This peptide has a site that is cleaved by the antigen and the active drug is released.
