CW August 2000Issue Number 8 August 2000 ISSN 10593802 Glucocorticoids Promote Prostate CancerA specific mutation in the androgen receptor gene makes it susceptible to cortisol stimulation. Cortisol is a glucocorticoid, a hormone substantial level of which circulates in the adult. The underlying cause of transition from an androgen-dependent to an androgen independent prostate cancer during androgen ablation therapy may be due to accumulation of this specific mutation.
