Altered PTEN Gene: An Early Marker for Endometrial Cancer

Unopposed exposure to estrogens increases the risk of endometrial cancer. Loss of the tumor suppressor gene PTEN may be an early event in the initiation of the disease in such an environment. Thus, PTEN mutation can be used as an important marker in the early detection of endometrial cancer, including the precancerous stage.
