The Rise and Fall of CA-125

One should not be too demanding. Tumor markers are specific or sensitive, never both. Their use, after the initial excitement, becomes increasingly limited; some fade away completely and some survive, when determined in well-defined, selected circumstances. Such is the fate of CA-125, which started out as a marker for ovarian carcinoma par excellence and has now joined the ranks of the ?also run? ? while still maintaining considerable popularity.
