New Drug Carrier Systems

The amount spent in North America on research into drug delivery is estimated at $40 billion. Not a paltry sum. It reflects the extent of the problem encountered with numerous macromolecules of therapeutic value which need to be delivered intact and active into a live host ? specifically in oncology, as close and as selectively as possible to the malignant growth. Most chemotherapeutic agents, when administered systemically, attack all fast-growing cells, which may severely limit their dosage and use. A brief review of recent technological advances in drug delivery follows.
