Antidepressants Ease Hot Flashes Among Breast Cancer Patients

Small doses of antidepressants may ease hot flashes among women with breast cancer, as well as those undergoing menopause. These drugs offer an effective non-estrogenic therapy for hot flashes for women who don't want to use estrogen replacement therapy. Breast cancer patients often complain of debilitating hot flashes from early menopause induced by chemotherapy. Currently, oncologists don't usually recommend the use of estrogen replacement therapy in women with breast cancer because of concerns it will stimulate cancer growth.
