Treating Mild Anemia in Cancer Patients

The current American Society of Hematology (ASH) and ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) guidelines recommend epoetin treatment for moderate anemia patients with hemoglobin levels <10g/d. Epoetin alfa (Procrit, Ortho Biotech) is known to increase hemoglobin (Hb) levels and reduce transfusion requirements in patients with anemia.
