New Treatment Approach for Prostate Cancer

The growth of prostate cells depends upon the male hormone androgen. Therefore, androgen deprivation has remained the cornerstone of therapy for advanced prostate cancer for over half a century. However, novel immunomodulatory approaches including tumor vaccines are being developed to manage prostate cancer. A new modality using a tumor vaccine along with a cytotoxic agent was tested in a small group of patients with advanced, androgen-independent prostate cancer.
