CW January 2004Issue Number 1 January 2004 ISSN 10593802 Epigenetic Changes Implicated in Lung CancerAn aberrant methylation of a gene can lead to the loss of its function. Mounting evidence indicates that key regulatory genes are often hypermethylated in certain types of cancers. This epigenetic change can be reversed by using small molecules, and therefore, such changes can be promising targets for cancer drug development. Understanding epigenetic changes that occur before the development of frank cancer will help the development of chemopreventive agents.
