Component in Green Tea can Modulate Anti-cancer Efficacy of Chemotherapeutic Agents

Theanine, an amino acid present in green tea, is found to increase the anticancer effect of certain chemotherapeutic drugs. This amino acid prevents the efflux of these chemotherapeutic drugs from the cancer cells but not from normal cells, thus increasing their effective concentration in the tumor. The drug modulatory effect of theanine on cancer patients, therefore, will have minimal or no adverse effects.
