CW November 2003Issue Number 11 November 2003 ISSN 10593802 Chylothorax after Radiotherapy in Esophageal CancerHigh dose radiation damages healthy tissue within the target volume and can cause serious complications. In the case of esophageal cancer, the lymphatic duct, which lies very close to it, can be damaged by radiation; consequently, the fluid leaks out to the pleural space. This is called chylothorax. In order to treat this, the fluid needs to be drained by an effective procedure.
