Both direct and indirect exposure to tobacco smoke are believed to cause lung cancer. It is established that new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) at the tumor site is essential for tumor growth. Now data have been presented linking tobacco smoke, even through indirect exposure, to tumor angiogenesis.
