CW September 2003Issue Number 9 September 2003 ISSN 10593802 Phase I Trial to Study Efficient Chemotherapeutic Drug Distribution in Brain TumorsBrain cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy often receive medications to combat convulsions. Some of these medications can stimulate liver enzymes that help eliminate chemo-therapeutic drugs. This can reduce the effective drug levels in the brain tissue. The maximum tolerated dose of an anticancer drug was found to be increased significantly when the brain cancer patients received certain anticonvulsants along with their chemotherapeutic regime.
