Novel Nanoparticle Paclitaxel Formulation for Taxane-Refractory Breast Cancer

Nanoparticle paclitaxel (ABI-007, American Pharmaceu-tical Partners), a unique paclitaxel preparation stablized with human albumin with a mean particle diameter of approximately 130 nm, or about 1/80th the size of a red blood cell, and a high therapeutic index due to its easy entry into tumor cells, has been shown to be well tolerated and highly active against taxane-refractory metastatic breast cancer, according to results presented at the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, held in Chicago, Illinois, from May 31 to June 3, 2003.
