Functional PET Scanning in the Detection of Recurrent Cervical Cancer

Certain metabolic activities in cancerous tissues are different from those of the normal tissues. This subtle difference can be detected by a novel imaging modality called functional imaging. Positron emission tomography (PET) that utilizes differential glucose metabolism is significantly accurate in detecting recurring cervical cancer.
