Expression of Estrogen Receptor-β in Liver Cancer

The expression of estrogen receptors in the liver plays an important role in carcinogenesis. The expression patterns of alpha and beta receptors change with cancer progression. Beta receptors are underexpressed in patients with chronic liver disease and liver cancer, with a tendency to lose this receptor in cases of liver cancer. Coexpression of wild-type receptors alpha and beta is associated with better prognosis.
