Ovarian tissue can be harvested from patients before undergoing drastic treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cryopreservation. Freezing and thawing procedures do not significantly affect the morphological structure of the organ, and some of the biochemical markers indicate that the if transplanted the cells of this tissue can resume mitotic division and grow. However, whether it will produce normal progeny needs to be determined.
