Monoclonal Antibody Trastuzumab does not Cross Blood-Brain Barrier

Women with HER-2/neu receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer respond very well to trastuzumab-based therapy. Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody directed against HER-2/neu receptors. However, patients treated with this antibody have a high risk of developing brain metastasis. One reason may be poor penetration of this antibody to cerebrospinal fluid.
