Angiogenesis and Apoptosis

Antiangiogenic agents cause apoptosis in the endothelial cells of the newly formed blood vessels found in tumors. Certain cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents, if administered at a low dose and a high frequency (metronomic schedule), rather than at a maximal tolerated dose with interval schedule, can also act as antiangiogenic agents. Metronomic scheduling seems to be more effective in reducing tumor size without causing adverse side effects.
