Is Hodgkin?s Disease a Single Entity?

The view that Hodgkin?s disease (HD) is a single clinocopathological entity is widely accepted; while pathologists enjoy subclassifying and segregating, clinicians are mostly interested in therapeutic responses. In l994, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the concept of ?classical?HD that implies a homogeneous response to treatment, but which is different from HD with nodular lymphocyte predominance. It appears that the latter differs with regard to sex and age distribution and in the expression of several antigens and gene products.
