Capecitabine May Replace 5-FU in Combination Chemotherapy for Colorectal Cancer

Capecitabine (Xeloda, Roche) pills may soon replace 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) infusions in combination chemotherapy for colorectal cancer (CRC). New results from a landmark, multicenter phase II study of 96 metastatic CRC patients who take capecitabine and oxaliplatin (Eloxatin, Sanofi) as a first-line therapy show a greater than 50% response rate.
