Anti-androgen Therapy may Stimulate Prostate Cancer Growth

Hydroxyflutamide is an anti-androgen, and has been used to block androgen-mediated prostate tumor growth. However, in some patients continuation of anti-androgen treatment causes tumor growth. This later phenomenon may be due to the stimulation of a kinase cascade by hydroxyflutamide when prostate cancer cells become androgen independent after prolonged hormone ablation therapy.
