Bone Marrow Transplantation and High Prevalence of Endocrine Dysfunction in Long-Term Survivors

A high incidence of endocrine (hormonal) dysfunction was observed in long-term survivors of hematologic patients treated with allogenic bone marrow cells who did not undergo whole body radiation as a pretreatment for transplantation. Most dysfunction was observed in the gonads. Other endocrine system such as thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary were also adversely affected.
