Palonosetron Safe and Effective For Cancer-induced Nausea, Vomiting

A promising new serotonin-receptor antagonist, palonosetron, appears to be safe and effective, according to the results of a phase III trial. A randomized, double-blind trial of 569 cancer patients receiving moderate emetogenic chemotherapy shows that a single dose of palonosetron given intravenously was more effective than standard dolasetron therapy in preventing both acute and delayed emesis, reported Steven Grunberg, professor of medicine at the University of Vermont.
