CW July 2002Issue Number 7 July 2002 ISSN 10593802 New Erythropoietic Therapy for Chronic Anemia of CancerDarbepoetin alfa (Aranesp™ Amgen), a novel erythropoietic agent with a longer serum half-life and greater in vivo biological activity than conventional recombinant human erythropoietin (HuEPO), has been shown to effectively alleviate anemia in patients with chronic anemia of cancer not receiving concomitant chemotherapy, according to results presented at the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, held in Orlando, Florida, from May 18 to 21, 2002.
